Week of September 3rd

Thanks for sending in your recycling this week for science.  We have plenty for tomorrow.

This is what we are learning this week!

Math:  I can instantly recognize the quantity of structured arrangements.  Students are learning to subitize  numbers by recognizing the number of dots on a card in varying arrangements.

Reading:  I can learn about Reader's Workshop in First grade. I can read in my independent reading spot. I can select just right books. I can build my reading stamina.

Social Studies:  I can identify and explain the purpose for rules at school and in the community.

Writing:  I can listen to sounds in words.  I can practice stretching sounds when speaking.  I can write down letters or chunks as I hear them.

Science:  I can identify and learn how to use natural resources and materials, including the conservation and reuse of recycling of paper, plastic, and metals.

Spelling is just for practice this week and next.  Spelling words should be on the First grade website for all 9 weeks. I am starting my beginning of the year testing on all the kiddos.  I will fill you in at conferences on how they are doing.  We will be signing up for conferences through sign up genius sometime later this month!   :o)

Tomorrow is Grandparents day.  Grandparents can come up and eat with their grandchild.  Our lunch is at 10:50am.
Also, if someone isn’t getting my emails, and they have told you, please let me know.

We are in need of:
More boxes of Crayons
Lysol
5 sets of Watercolors for a science activity
Large ziplock baggies

I hope everyone has a GREAT weekend!  Thanks again for all you do for our class!
