WEEK OF NOVEMBER 10th

HAPPY TUESDAY PARENTS:

I apologize for not sending guided reading home sooner this week.  We are learning some new concepts in reading and writing.  I have really been focusing on that in class. We will get to guided reading on Wednesday.  And homework will be due next Monday. 

WE WILL HAVE PJ DAY ON FRIDAY FOR BOOSTERTHON!!!!!!!

TONIGHT:  Mooyah Spirit Night 4-10 pm

I Can statements for the week:

Math - I can understand that the equal sign represents the same value on each side of the equal sign.

Reading - I can use the features of nonfiction text to help me find facts about a topic.

Science -  I can identify what a scientist is and explore what scientists do.

Writing - I can draft the beginning, middle, and end to my personal narrative while adding rich details.

Spelling - I can spell words with -ot and -op.


I hope everyone has a great week!  I will be sending out an email soon as to what donations I will need for our Elves on the shelf.  Peppermint and Pop will join us after Thanksgiving Break!  I appreciate all you do for our class!!!

Week of October 13th

Happy Wednesday Parents:

I sent home Guided Reading binders yesterday.  We will be tweaking everything the first few weeks.  PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD BRINGS THEIR BINDER BACK TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY!  I will be trying to read with them as much as I can.  Some groups will met with daily.

FIELD TRIP IS TOMORROW!!! THURSDAY the 16th… SAFETY TOWN!!!
If you are planning on coming, please meet us there at 9:30am.  We will be there until a little after 11am. We will have lunch back at school.  Your child can still buy from the cafeteria if they want when we return.  They do not have to have a sack lunch. 


I had a really good Monday talking to all of you!  Please know that I am going to do all I can to make sure each child’s FIRST GRADE year is FUN, CHALLENGING AND SUCCESSFUL!!!

Writing - I can create complete sentences in my writing pieces.

Week of October 6th

I am looking forward to meeting with everyone next Monday.  If you cannot make it, please let me know and I can schedule another day and time with you.   The book fair will be going on in the library all week! 

GUIDED READING- IMPORTANT!
I am asking for my kids to use binders this year for Guided Reading.  I think it will help us keep up with our work.  Please send a 1 inch black or white binder for your child by this Friday if you can.  If not, by next Tuesday at the latest.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE AN EXTRA BINDER, THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL TOO!!!

Week of September 22

Happy Thursday Parents:

I just sent out a sign up genius for conferences on October 13th.  If you cannot make it that day, please let me know and we can reschedule after school another day.  I can also do phone conferences if needed.

I am attaching our CLASS T-SHIRT ordering instructions as well.  OUR T-shirt color is PURPLE TIE DYE! It is not mandatory to purchase a T-shirt but we wear them on Wednesdays and on field trips.  The t-shirt cost $14.14 with tax included.    ALL T-SHIRT MONEY IS DUE THROUGH THE ONLINE SYSTEM BY SEPTEMBER 30th!

I am also sending home the permission slip for our Safety Town field trip.  We are going to Safety Town on Thursday, October 16th!  Please let me know if you can come and help!  :o)

Week of September 22nd

I apologize for not sending an email or posting on my blog last week.  I was trying to let my finger heal some.  It is feeling much better.  :o)
I hope everyone had a great weekend!

What we are learning this week:

Math - I can skip count by 2's, 5's, & 10's to determine to total number of objects up to 80 in a set

Reading - I can use my reader's response journal to write my favorite part of my story

Spelling - I can spell words with -in & -o

Writing - I can use alphabet cards with pictures to help me find the letters and sounds I need

Science -  I can demonstrate that air is all around us

I just wanted to give you a heads up about Curriculum Night tomorrow night from 6-8 pm. You’ll start out in my classroom, but will be rotating through two other rooms for subject area information.  If you cannot attend, no worries, well have the information on the grade level website later in the week.  Please bring a pen so you can take any notes and write down questions. 

I am continuing my Reading and Math testing for parent conferences to let you know how your child is doing before report cards come out.

Week of September 3rd



Thanks for sending in your recycling this week for science.  We have plenty for tomorrow.

This is what we are learning this week!

Math:  I can instantly recognize the quantity of structured arrangements.  Students are learning to subitize  numbers by recognizing the number of dots on a card in varying arrangements. 

Reading:  I can learn about Reader's Workshop in First grade. I can read in my independent reading spot. I can select just right books. I can build my reading stamina.

Social Studies:  I can identify and explain the purpose for rules at school and in the community.

Writing:  I can listen to sounds in words.  I can practice stretching sounds when speaking.  I can write down letters or chunks as I hear them.

Science:  I can identify and learn how to use natural resources and materials, including the conservation and reuse of recycling of paper, plastic, and metals.

Spelling is just for practice this week and next.  Spelling words should be on the First grade website for all 9 weeks. I am starting my beginning of the year testing on all the kiddos.  I will fill you in at conferences on how they are doing.  We will be signing up for conferences through sign up genius sometime later this month!   :o) 

Tomorrow is Grandparents day.  Grandparents can come up and eat with their grandchild.  Our lunch is at 10:50am.  
Also, if someone isn’t getting my emails, and they have told you, please let me know.

First Grade End of Year Updates

It is almost time to celebrate the end of First Grade!  Mark your calendars for these fun and upcoming events.  Let make the end of the year great!

1st Grade Music Program: Oceans of Fun! Thursday April 24th, 6 pm
Come see this fabulous show that your students have been working on!

Teacher Appreciation Week – May 5th -9th
Information will be coming out from your Room Parent on how we can show appreciation to your teacher for the great year our students have had!

Tie Dye T-Shirts – Due Friday May 9th or Before
We need each student to bring in a new white t-shirt to have a shirt dyed for them to wear on the day of the end of the year party. Please write your child’s name in permanent marker on the tag.  (We will gladly take extra T-shirt donations in child mediums and larges)


 
Field Day – Friday, May 9th
If would like to participate or be a volunteer, please check in with your teacher.  Come cheer the kids on!

Field Trip to the Heard Museum- Friday, May 16th
Let your child’s teacher know if you are interested in attending.  Don’t forget to complete a background check online! Field trip forms and money ($9 cash) are due Friday, April 25th. We hope you can join us!

End of Year Party – Thursday June 5th
More Information will be coming home regarding the end of year party. We are looking for volunteers to help with the rotation stations for each class.  The party starts at 1:30 PM and we will have Snow Cones, games and much more! J

Week of April 1st

HAPPY WEDNESDAY PARENTS:
I waited to send the email this week since we do not have a lot going on with STAAR testing happening.  We are finishing our Ocean animal research for open house.  I will not be sending new Guided reading books home this week because we have been doing small group writing time. 
Friday is our Celebration of Learning at 8:15am. You are welcome to come if you would like.
If you have any gentle used or would like to donate, we could use some board games (Monopoly junior, twister, etc.) or card games for STAAR days.  We have to have indoor recess those days and some more games would be helpful for entertainment on those long days!!!!!! My games have become boring! Haha. :o)
