Week of October 7th

HI FAMILIES!!!!

I don’t know about ya’ll but we are SOOOO enjoying  this cooler weather at our house!  :o)

***** PTA reminder: The class with the most PTA members will receive extra recess and slime Mr. Iorio!  If our class had100% participation, I would let our KIDS HAVE A TECHNOLOGY DAY AS WELL! Bring an IPOD, Tablet, Kindle, IPAD, etc… Etc… to school!

Book Fair lunch with a loved one is Wednesday at 10:20am. Please email me if you didn't return the form to let me know if you plan to take your child to the book fair during recess. That way your child will be waiting for you by the library.

You may also send money to school with your child and I will send them down to purchase.  There are plenty of AWESOME parent volunteers down there to help them….  AND THANK YOU TO THE PARENTS THAT HAVE BOUGHT ME BOOKS FROM MY WISH LIST!!! ONE OF MY FAVORIITE THINGS IS GETTING NEW BOOKS FOR THE KIDS TO ENJOY!!!!!

I hope to see everyone at Math Night on Thursday! It starts at 6:00pm in the cafe.

What we are learning this week:

Reading-I can read aloud with fluency and comprehension.

Writing-I can understand the importance of rereading my draft as I edit.
I can focus on capitalization and punctuation as I edit my draft.

Spelling Words:  did, want, they and ask. (I have attached spelling ideas for homework)

Math-I can build numbers with tens and ones using a place value mat correctly.
I can compare numbers by looking at groups of tens and ones.

Science-I can describe the characteristics for each season.

***** We have started GUIDED READING AND GUIDED WRITING…. You will notice your child coming home with a folder with books and/or writing homework a few times a week!  PLEASE SEND THE FOLDER BACK TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY!!! And PLEASE SIGN THE READING LOG AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE SO I KNOW YOU ARE READING AND UP TO DATE WITH THEIR HOMEWORK!!!  :o)  Please make sure you are reading with your child nightly… And if they memorize the book after a few days,  that is fine! They need to be working on EXPRESSION and Fluency (speed)! They can also read their library books and books at home! The MORE they READ, the FASTER their LEVEL will GO UP!!!  :o)  Some students have SIGHT WORDS in their folder…. READ, READ, READ, them! The faster they read them and more familiar they are with them, the better they will do in reading!!!
If you have any questions about GUIDED READING at school or homework I send, please email me!  I will definitely address it during conferences as well!  :o)  Some groups may not bring anything home until later next week!
