Week of November 18-22

Reading-I can explain why technology has changed things over time.
I can compare and contrast changes over time.

Writing-I can use transition words such as first, next, then, last.

Spelling-I can spell -it and -in word family words

Math-I can use the making 10 strategy to solve word problems with 3 addends. For example: 3+5+7=10+5

Science-I can understand the importance of inventions.

Week of November 4th

We had some much FUN sharing our Pumpkin characters! Everyone really did an AWESOME JOB on them!
If you would like to volunteer on our field trip to Safety Town on Nov. 15th … Please let me know and make sure you have a background check completed through the FISD website!
This week we are learning:
Writing-I can self-select a topic to write about.
I can tell my own "small moment" story.
Reading-
I can consider how texts are organized, in order to recognize patterns and structures in order to navigate texts.

Week of October 21st

Our first project is this week. A letter is coming home today in BLUE  folders to explain the expectations.

What we are Learning this Week:
Writing-I can meet with my writing partner and teacher to confer about my writing.

Reading-I can activate my schema to understand what matters most.
I can create and use a simple map.

Spelling-I can review saw, yes, nice, my, I, are and yes.   REVIEW ONLY THIS WEEK…. No Test!

Math-I can recognize the number relationships between numbers in number problems. (4+6=10, 6+4=10, 10-6=4, 10-4=6)
I can review and apply my First Grade Math skills to a variety of problems.

Science-I can observe, collect, record, and compare information using tools, including …clocks and timers…

TWIN DAY IS WEDNESDAY!!!  October 23rd….
I thought it would be fun for the class to all dress alike if your child wants to participate!  :o)

*****WE WILL WEAR OUR ORANGE CLASS T-SHIRTS ON WEDNESDAY!!!

*** If the girls would like to dress JUST like me and be my TWIN, they can… I will have my class t-shirt on, a black skirt, orange and black knee high socks or tights,  And Black boots.    :o)

Week of October 7th

HI FAMILIES!!!! 

I don’t know about ya’ll but we are SOOOO enjoying  this cooler weather at our house!  :o)

***** PTA reminder: The class with the most PTA members will receive extra recess and slime Mr. Iorio!  If our class had100% participation, I would let our KIDS HAVE A TECHNOLOGY DAY AS WELL! Bring an IPOD, Tablet, Kindle, IPAD, etc… Etc… to school!

Book Fair lunch with a loved one is Wednesday at 10:20am. Please email me if you didn't return the form to let me know if you plan to take your child to the book fair during recess. That way your child will be waiting for you by the library.

You may also send money to school with your child and I will send them down to purchase.  There are plenty of AWESOME parent volunteers down there to help them….  AND THANK YOU TO THE PARENTS THAT HAVE BOUGHT ME BOOKS FROM MY WISH LIST!!! ONE OF MY FAVORIITE THINGS IS GETTING NEW BOOKS FOR THE KIDS TO ENJOY!!!!!

I hope to see everyone at Math Night on Thursday! It starts at 6:00pm in the cafe.

What we are learning this week:

Reading-I can read aloud with fluency and comprehension.

Writing-I can understand the importance of rereading my draft as I edit.
I can focus on capitalization and punctuation as I edit my draft.

Spelling Words:  did, want, they and ask. (I have attached spelling ideas for homework)

Math-I can build numbers with tens and ones using a place value mat correctly.
I can compare numbers by looking at groups of tens and ones.

Science-I can describe the characteristics for each season.


***** We have started GUIDED READING AND GUIDED WRITING…. You will notice your child coming home with a folder with books and/or writing homework a few times a week!  PLEASE SEND THE FOLDER BACK TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY!!! And PLEASE SIGN THE READING LOG AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE SO I KNOW YOU ARE READING AND UP TO DATE WITH THEIR HOMEWORK!!!  :o)  Please make sure you are reading with your child nightly… And if they memorize the book after a few days,  that is fine! They need to be working on EXPRESSION and Fluency (speed)! They can also read their library books and books at home! The MORE they READ, the FASTER their LEVEL will GO UP!!!  :o)  Some students have SIGHT WORDS in their folder…. READ, READ, READ, them! The faster they read them and more familiar they are with them, the better they will do in reading!!!
If you have any questions about GUIDED READING at school or homework I send, please email me!  I will definitely address it during conferences as well!  :o)  Some groups may not bring anything home until later next week!

Week of September 9th

I AM TRULY EXCITED ABOUT THIS YEAR AND THIS WONDERFUL CLASS THAT I HAVE!!!!  :o)

So, Welcome to my weekly email…. You may receive more than one a week if I have a lot of information for you. 
Over the next few weeks we will be learning about:

Reading- Making Connections and Predictions in a story
Writing- Using punctuation correctly at the end of a sentence
Math: Ordering and Comparing numbers to 50 and doing addition and subtraction to 12
Science: Learning about AIR and WIND and how it moves…

***SPELLING:  Right now spelling words are found on our GRADE LEVEL website. There are homework ideas for you to do with your child all year.  WE ARE ONLY
PRACTICING SPELLING FOR THE FIRST 9 WEEKS!  We are reviewing Kinder words and teaching the students how to use the word wall to find words they may need help spelling.  We will practice taking a “spelling test” on Fridays but it only to help our students get into the routine of taking a spelling test.  SPELLING THAT WILL COUNT FOR THE REPORT CARD WILL START THE SECOND 9 WEEKS!  :o) See our website below for Spelling!

Week of April 29th

What a fun week we have planned!  We will be going on our Learning Trip on Thursday to The Heard Museum in McKinney.
We will be leaving the school at 9:15am.  Arriving at the Heard around 10:15am.  Our class will be eating lunch first around 10:45am. 
We will then walk around and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature!  At 12:30pm we will join Mrs. Boyett’s class for an hour lesson with the
teachers at the Heard Sanctuary.  We will be departing at 1:30pm to return to Robertson! 

Don’t forget to wear the AQUA C. Williams field trip shirt!!!!

Parent Reminders:
1.       No siblings on the learning trip!
2.      You may check your child out at the end of the day before we leave the Heard Museum.  You will have to sign a release.
3.      If you are a chaperone, you will receive a separate email with more information and your groups!
4.      It is supposed to pretty COLD on Thursday!  Make sure you dress your child in jeans, with Long sleeves under their C. Williams
Field trip shirt! AND SEND A COAT!!!!
5.      Don’t forget to send a sack lunch with your child unless you ordered one from the cafeteria through me.

My end of the year reading, writing and math assessments and will be working on them until the end of May with each student.  We will still

Week of April 8th

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend… I sent new guided reading books home today with everyone and some groups received homework that’s due on Friday
For a reward!  :o) 

What we are learning this week:

Reading & Writing: Fables with morals and Organizing your writing with a beginning, middle and end.
Math:  Graphing (collecting data, different types of graphs, etc)
Science: Labeling the parts of a butterfly
Spelling Words: tide, side, bride, nine, spine, mine, who, are, got, two
Challenge Words: outside, pineapple, area, tools, caterpillar

Tomorrow is Book fair lunch with a LOVED ONE…  You may come at 10:20am for book fair shopping and then our lunch begins at 10:50am.

APRIL 1st

Hello Parents-

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend with your families and friends!!!  We had a wonderful weekend!
Here are some things that are coming up:

April 18th  - 1st grade Program- @ 6:30 (student arrival will be different) I will let you know when I have that time.
April 17th- Field trip money ($9.00) and forms are due… Letter and forms will come home tomorrow.
May 2nd- FIELD TRIP

I will be sending out April’s homework sometime this week.

This week we are learning:

Reading and Writing:
I can understand prepositions and prepositional phrases.
I can make a personal connection to my poetry.  I can use comparisons in poetry.

Math:
I can identify events as certain or impossible.

Science:
I can identify the life cycle of a butterfly.

Week March 25th

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  My family and I are looking forward to a wonderful long Easter weekend with our extended family.
We did not have homework this month.  I know some parents had asked me about it earlier in the month.  We will pick back up next month!


THIS WEEK ON THURSDAY-  WE ARE GOING TO TRY TO FLY KITES ON THURSDAY IF IT IS WINDY ENOUGH … We were supposed to only do one kite per class, but I thought it would be fun to fly as a class…  I have had 2 kites donated already.  If you would like to donate more, please let me know.  I think it would be special if everyone in our class has a kite to fly.  If your child has a kite at home, they are more than welcome to bring it to fly. 

REMINDERS FOR THIS WEEK:
Wednesday is C. Williams T-shirt day!
Picture order forms are due on Thursday. 
Report cards go home on Thursday!
Music sign up for an animal or color needs to be turned in by April 12th.  The program is April 18th

Week of March 18th

I hope everyone had a GREAT week!  I enjoyed teaching my girls how to ski in New Mexico!  I showed your kiddos some
videos today as we were sharing what we did over the break!

This week we are learning:

Reading and Writing:
I can understand and use adjectives and nouns.
I can hear rhythm in a rhyme in poetry.

Math:
I can order events according to duration. 
I can tell time by hour and half hour.

Science:
I can identify that moving air is wind and air can expand and rise.

THERE IS NO SPELLING AGAIN THIS WEEK!  IT IS A REVIEW WEEK!

Week of March 4th


It is going to be an exciting week with open house on Thursday!  It starts at 6:00pm and will last until 7:00pm.  We have really been working hard on our research and projects to share with you.
THERE IS NO SPELLING THIS WEEK AND I WILL NOT BE SENDING NEW GUIDED READING BOOKS HOME!  We are continuing to meet daily editing and finishing our research projects.
In Math we are still learning about time to the hour and ordering events from shortest to longest and visa versa.

Week of Jan. 22nd

I hope everyone had a great restful weekend! We visited family in Abilene and our girls had a lot of fun!  I will be out this Friday for doctor appointments. Just wanted to give you a heads up.  I really do not have a lot of information for this week.  Thursday is polk-a-dot day. So wear polk-a-dots!!  Tomorrow is class t-shirt day! 

I am attaching a tens and ones review for you to do as something extra at home with your child…  It will be good practice for them.

We are learning this week:

Writing: I can identify a piece of non-fiction writing.

Reading: I can prove my story is true.

Math: Reviewing tens and ones, word problems, 2D and 3D shapes, and ordering numbers to 100.

Science: I can identify living and non-living

Week of January 14th

Hi Parents-

I hope everyone had a restful weekend.  I got to babysit my sister’s twin 2 year olds.  We had a blast and were all over the house.  I had a lot to clean up by the end of
the night.  :o)

Please make sure if your child is sick that they are fever free and throw up free for at least 24 hours before you send them back.  We have had the flu, strep, stomach virus and fever going around the last few weeks.  I have been very diligent about spraying the room with Lysol 2 times a day!

I have attached the January home work calendar for you to view.  I have sent the homework packet home today in your child’s blue folder.

I have began Mid-year assessments today.  I will be testing math and reading levels for the next couple of weeks.  I will still be sending home
Guided reading books but maybe not as frequently as usual. 

We are starting CoGat testing tomorrow.  We will be testing through Thursday.  If your child is absent, they will have time to make the test up when they return.

This week we are learning:
Writing: I can write with a specific audience in mind.
Reading: I can use a map to find Texas and the 4 cardinal directions.
Math: I can Order numbers to 100
Science: I can learn how rocks, soil, and water make useful products.

Week of January 7th

WELCOME BACK!!!!  It was nice break for my family and I.  We went to the Grand Cayman Island.  It was absolutely beautiful and a well rested break!  Please continue to
Remind your child to use hand sanitizer every day, all day long in class.  I have plenty out and available.  My 2 youngest had the flu over the break and they were miserable. 

This week we are learning:

I CAN:
Writing: Use a period, question mark and exclamation mark at the end of a sentence. 
Write so that a friend can read my writing.

Reading: Use mental images to help me understand what I read.

Math: Order numbers to 100 and make sets of 10’s and 1’s

Science: Classify objects by observable properties.

Report cards come home on Thursday.  Please email me with any questions or concerns you may have!  I must say everyone is developing beautifully in our
Classroom!  I am very proud of this group of kiddos!

This FRIDAY is 50’s dress up day…
