Week of December 17th

Hi Parents:

This week we will finish our study of traditions, holidays, and customs of different countries around the world.  We have been making connections to our own traditions, customs, and holidays that we celebrate here in America. The kiddos will bring their work home on Thursday or Friday!

What we are learning this week:
Reading-I can make text to self and text to text connections.
Writing-I can compare other winter traditions to mine and write about them.
Spelling-I can spell try, my, fly, land, band, stand, she, in, way and make.
Math-I can use strategies to help me solve addition and subtraction problems.
Science-I can identify characteristics of the season winter.

Winter Parties start at 1:45pm on Friday!  We will see you then!

Week of Dec. 3rd

Hi Parents-

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I have attached the November and December homework calendar again if you did not receive it in November.  This is the calendar that the whole entire First grade does.  All classes are working on the same homework.  We had a great day today in class!

1st Grade Parents are in charge of the staff luncheon on Friday, December7th.  Since I am a First Grade parent, I am going to

Week of Nov. 26th


Our field trip is tomorrow, Novermber 27th.  Please make sure your child wears their AQUA T-shirt.  It looks like the high is going to be 59 tomorrow. It will be pretty chilly!  Your child will need a jacket or coat.

What we are learning this week:
Reading-I can make connections to my previous learning.

Writing-I can write a story with a clear setting.
I can use words and phrases that express feelings.

Spelling-I can spell sun, run, fun, cut, hut, nut, big, not, look and he.

Math-I can identify and describe 3D shapes.

Science-I can observe and record changes in the sky such as: clouds, moon and sun.

Week of Nov. 5th

Hi Parents:

We are up to $35.00 a lap for Boosterthon….

WE ARE IN FIRST PLACE FOR OUR GARDE LEVEL AND THIRD PLACE FOR THE WHOLE SCHOOL!!!!

I am very proud of our class…. Keep the pledges coming!  We will run at 8:30am on Thursday!

THANKS FOR ALL THE DONATIONS!!!! We have plenty of Lysol wipes and puff paint!


Also, if you need another copy of the turkey that I sent home for you and your child to decorate, please let me know… I have a few kiddos that have not completed it.
Remember, you can use anything from around your house… Get creative!  :o)

FIELD TRIP LETTERS & PERMISSION FORMS ARE COMING HOME TODAY!
Note*** There is a typo…. Our Class will be going Tuesday, November 27th at 9am.
This is a FREE field trip.  No money is due, just forms!

Week Oct. 29th

Happy Halloween!

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Here is what we are learning this week!

Reading-I can create mental images as I'm reading.

Social Studies-I can explain why technology has changed things over time.

Writing-I can understand and use adjectives in my writing.

Math-I can use fact families to solve addition and subtraction sentences.
Example:
6+1=7
1+6=7
7-1=6
7-6=1

Science-I can identify and discuss how sound is important to everyday life.

Week of October 22nd


I hope everyone is having a great week!  Here is what we are learning this week!

Reading-I can listen to the sounds vowels make in words.
I can make and write a text to self connection. 
For example-When I read the part about Arthur losing his tooth it reminded me of when my tooth was pulled out with a piece of string.

Writing-I can capitalize the names of people in my writing.
I can write about my small moment.
For example-My top front tooth was loose.  A string was was tied around my tooth.  My dad yanked the string really fast.  My tooth was out and it didn't hurt!

Spelling-I can spell -ap and -an word family words.
I can spell like, no, the and at high frequency words.

Math-I can use patterns to solve addition problems (doubles and doubles plus 1).
For example-If I know 2+2=4, then I can solve 2+3.

Science-I can predict and identify changes in materials caused by heating and cooling.  (We will observe how objects change from liquid to solid and solid to liquid.)

Its been a great first ALMOST month of school!  I really enjoying your kiddos.

Its been a great few weeks of school!!! I am sooo thrilled about how anxious each student is about learning.   PLEASE SEND YOUR CHILD'S T-SHIRT money by the end of the week. I still have 5 students that have not brought their $8.00.

What we are learning this week!

Reading:
I can show respect to my teacher and classmates by staying on task during independent reading time.
I can work quietly and take care of myself during independent reading time.
I can use reading strategies for unknown words.

Writing:
I can work independently during writer's workshop.
I can contribute to a class book.
I can use punctuation at the end of sentences correctly.

Phonics:

WELCOME BACK!!!

Hi Parents-

I apologize for the delay... BUT WELCOME!!!!  I am so excited to have your kiddo this year!  First Grade is such a milestone year.  I am truly excited and honored to be your child's teacher.  I hope they have already come home excited about learning and what is to come in my classroom!  Curriculum night is Thursday evening at 7:15pm.  I hope you can join us to hear  what your child will be learning this year.  Please do not forget that T-shirt money ($8.00) is due this Friday.  These T-shirts will be used for filed trips and special occasions at school.  Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have! I hope everyone has a GREAT week!  We have been.  And if your child told you I ran out of the classroom today and did not return... It was because my 8th Grade daughter got hit in the head with ladder in theater class.  I had to take her to the emergency room.  All is well! She has a slight concussion but nothing bad... Ask me about it when you see me, it's quite a humorous story!  We are a little clumsy in my family!  :o)

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

This week is CogAT testing, Cognitive Abilities Test. Your child will be taking 2 tests daily. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. Each test takes about an hour to complete.  A letter went home last Friday with more information.
